Johnny Stegall new MJHS Principal

The Mustang family is excited to announce the appointment of Principal Johnny Stegall in the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. Read on to hear about Johnny Stegall's passion for education in his own words.

"I became an educator because I want to keep inspiring learners and inspire curiosity to create a brighter future. The light bulb effect always reminds me why I started working in schools in the first place. When you see the "light bulb" in a students eyes, it is exactly why I became an educator, to see that inspiration and understanding and help it grow.

I am passionate about leading Mesquite Junior because the energy GPS students bring to campus and to classrooms is contagious. The rising generation continues to inspire me with their intelligence, curiosity and creativity. I want MJHS to be a space where that energy is fostered and turned toward an excitement for education and community.

In everything I do, I want our Mustangs to know that I care. I care about both parent and student well-being, I care about their experience, and I care to make Mesquite a better place for all. I believe a school can provide an opportunity for all students to thrive based on their interests and problem-solving skills, similar to post-graduation life. It is this kind of opportunity that I want to continue and expand at Mesquite.

Thinking back to when I was a student in school, I have great memories of being part of a community and playing baseball. Sports are a great way to increase positive community connections, but I know that our Mustang staff and students already have a great beginning to the kind of positive community I envision for MJHS."
