Campus Clubs, Student Activities, and Extracurricular Programs Build Connections and Enhance Student Life Across Gilbert Public Schools

Gilbert Public Schools offers a wide range of clubs and activities to help students across every grade level learn and grow beyond the classroom. From student leadership opportunities to unique interest groups, clubs and activities help students build meaningful relationships, learn practical life skills, and discover new personal interests.

In GPS high schools, participating in clubs and student organizations helps students explore their interests, build relationships, and make a positive impact on their campuses. Desert Ridge High junior Abby Mullineaux balances her time with National Honor Society, Pulse Dance Company - a DRHS pom and dance team - and student council.

"My school journey would be so different if I weren't involved in all these things," Mullineaux said. "Being able to go out and discover all these parts of myself made it easier to figure out who I am and who I want to be. I just really recommend doing clubs or sports or anything you can, because it really makes school more memorable, fun, and fulfilling."

DRHS Junior Prudence Rockwood is also involved in a variety of clubs and activities, serving as the Youth Alive Club president, a JAG Ambassador, a Thespian officer, and a student council member.

“For me, theater is my favorite thing. Everyone is so kind, you meet such amazing people, and it helps you break out of your shell,” added Rockwood. “Being in clubs and in arts, you can make an impact on the entire school and be a part of big events.”

Exploring Hobbies, Academics, Culture, and More

Clubs also offer spaces for students to build community around unique hobbies, academic interests, cultural traditions, arts, leadership, and service. At Highland Junior High, 30 - 50 students meet in the school’s library every two weeks for the student-led Dungeons and Dragons Club. Working in small teams across eight or nine ongoing games, students create story campaigns that practice creative writing, collaborative problem-solving, and team communication in a low-pressure environment.

Students at all GPS schools can join a wide range of clubs that explore practical academics, community service, and traditions from around the world, and all clubs are officially sponsored by a GPS staff member.

At Burk Elementary School, students can join the Lego Robotics Club, where fourth through sixth graders learn to code and assemble robots made of Legos and compete in statewide competitions.

At Augusta Ranch Elementary, the Principal’s Academy and Kindness Clubs offer third through sixth grade students the chance to work together on service projects that can make a positive impact on campus and in their local community.

Cultural exploration clubs like Settler’s Point Elementary’s Culture Club and Gilbert Elementary’s Folklorico Club also allow students to learn about traditions, food, art, and more from cultures around the world.

Staff Support & Student Learning

Teachers, staff members, and club advisors coordinate the logistics, scheduling, and instruction needed to run campus clubs and activities. These staff members guide research projects, direct learning exercises, and organize field trips that connect academic subjects with practical applications to support student learning. These advisors work directly with their students to meet student needs and even start new clubs that improve students’ educational experiences.

Last school year, 18 Gilbert Public Schools (GPS) campuses started STEM and engineering clubs or events to spread a passion for learning across their campuses. This year, Burk Elementary is starting an Oceanography club, which aims to make learning fun by providing students with engaging activities while learning more about the ocean and the world around them.
